Privacy Policy for Otok Hex - HEX File Viewer

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 18, 2026

The application runs locally on your Android device. It does not collect any data, does not use analytics or advertising, and does not send any data to the developer or to third parties.

The owner of the application, Alexander Pototskiy, does not have any way to access the data viewed or created by the user.

Files on your device

You can open any file you choose with the system file picker. The application works only with the files you open and with the files in its own documents folder, which the system file picker also shows as "Otok Hex".

Sharing the whole device storage through the web file access (see below) is optional and off by default. It requires the "All files access" permission on Android 11 and later, or the storage permissions on Android 10 and earlier. The application asks for it only when you turn on the "Device Storage" option on the network sharing screen, and uses it only to list, show, download and upload files at your request. You can turn the option off, or revoke the permission in the system settings, at any time.

Network access (HTTP server)

The application contains an HTTP server that is off by default and is started only by you. While it is on, you can browse, download and upload files from a web browser on another device in your local network, at the address shown in the application: the files of the application's documents folder and, only if you turned on the "Device Storage" option, the files of the whole device storage. Access can optionally be protected with a login and password, set where the server is turned on. Files are transferred only between your device and the browser connected to it and are not sent anywhere else.

The connection is not encrypted (plain HTTP), so use the server only in networks you trust.

While the server is running, the application shows a notification with a Stop action. The server stops when you turn it off, from that notification, or automatically after 10 minutes without activity while the application is not on the screen.

Camera

The application uses the camera only to scan QR codes and barcodes, and only when you start scanning. The images are processed on your device and are neither stored nor sent anywhere.
